Packing for a move

May 8th, 2006 · No Comments

Like most blogs, I will often write about current events in my life and categorize them. This weekend was spent packing some of the contents of my current residence for an upcoming move. How do you get ready for a move to a more secure home?

I have found the transition phase to be quite unsettling. My final point of reconciliation has come about with the safe overlap of property access. I gained access to the new location on the 1st of the month, and do not give up complete access to my existing domain until the end of May. I can safely transition items between both locations without fear of being caught in-between and no safe haven. I will place a temporary set of safety items at the new address this week. Safety items will include basic tools, fire extinguisher, toiletries, and a 72 hour kit of items to have on hand if needed. http://www.ready.gov/america/get_a_kit.html suggests a basic kit for someone just getting started in preparedness. There are other more comprehensive lists available on the net with a quick search through www.google.com.

Take a basic move kit, add your emergency pack and camping gear, and your move just became an extended camping trip.

Shelter, water, first aid, basic healthy food, communication, and primary means of self-defense will be easily handled in both locations. This could still be managed on a less overlapping relocation, but I was fortunate that I am not moving far and the circumstances allow me this luxury.
